Our Beliefs

At Open Hearts Community, we recognize that there is a diversity in understandings and beliefs held within those who enter the church. We believe this to be a good thing. The matter of faith is life giving, and its complexity is both intimately private and boldly communal.

While we come from different backgrounds, we describe our approach as generally “Wesleyan”. We believe in a never ending grace that reaches us all, forgiveness, compassion and mercy, good works and much more.

On Sundays, we gather for hymns, prayer requests, and preaching with communion most weeks. We also follow the liturgical calendar and its holy days.We welcome different ideas and approaches to this goal. While we have a broad spectrum of beliefs,

We do have a few core beliefs:

1) We believe that “God is Love.” Therefore, as God’s creation, we are all called to imitate that supreme teaching in the world.

2) Christ came to us as a model of what a beloved community can and should be, and before his ascension commanded all of creation to pick up their “proverbial crosses” and follow in his teachings. Therefore, the matter of works and our calling to love one another is central to our belief.

3) All people are created in the image of God.
